Types of ADP Inefficiencies
Post-injury recency bias. Players returning from significant injuries are often undervalued in ADP because managers overweight the injury risk and underweight the upside if the player fully recovers. A WR returning from an ACL tear in late March at an ADP of round 8 might project to a round-5 value if healthy — betting on their recovery at the discount ADP captures the surplus if recovery goes well.
Offseason narrative overpricing. Conversely, players who had strong off-season narratives (great OTA reports, significant team investment, new QB chemistry) sometimes get drafted 3–5 rounds earlier than their likely statistical contribution justifies. ADP in July can be inflated by camp reports that have no real signal. Fading these overpriced narrative picks and drafting their more reasonably-priced teammates is a simple arbitrage.
Late-Round ADP Arbitrage
The highest-upside late-round picks. ADP arbitrage is most impactful in the late rounds — picks 15–20 in a 20-pick best ball draft where the per-pick value is low. The difference between a 15th-round WR at ADP 200 and the WR who actually finishes as WR25 on the season is enormous; identifying which late-round WRs are likely to outperform their ADP is the highest-leverage skill in best ball drafting.
Process over outcome. ADP arbitrage is a process skill, not an outcome guarantee. A player drafted 5 rounds after their ADP still might not produce — injuries, scheme changes, and performance variance are all uncontrollable. The goal is consistently identifying mispriced players so that across dozens of best ball teams per season, the edge compounds into above-average results.
