Why a full-season outlook is the correct frame for best ball evaluation: in season-long redraft, you evaluate players weekly and adjust through adds, drops, and lineup changes. In best ball, you set your roster on draft day and accumulate points across 17 weeks without changes. The correct evaluation question is: “over 17 games, what will this player’s cumulative point total be?” — not “how will they do this week?” This full-season frame changes which players are valuable and which carry hidden risks.

The components of a full-season projection:
The framework: (1) role sustainability — how confident are you that the player will maintain their current role for all 17 games? A WR1 who is on a stable team with no competition for the role has near-100% role sustainability; a committee RB who could lose carries if a backup emerges has 70–80% role sustainability; (2) health expectation — what is the player’s injury history and position-based injury risk? A featured RB has roughly a 25–30% chance of missing 4+ games per season based on historical position injury rates; a QB has a 15% chance; a WR has a 20% chance; these probabilities reduce the expected full-season point total even if the player is healthy all 17 weeks; (3) schedule difficulty — does the player’s schedule include an unusual number of favorable or unfavorable matchups? A QB who plays 4 of their 17 games against bottom-10 pass defenses has a schedule advantage; (4) production trajectory — is the player improving, stable, or declining? A player on a positive trajectory warrants a slightly above-market projection; one declining warrants a slight discount.
How to apply full-season outlook to draft decisions:
The application: (1) for each player you are considering, estimate their “floor-season” (the most likely outcome if things go moderately wrong but not catastrophically) and “ceiling-season” (the most likely outcome if things go well); the floor matters for best ball because you cannot replace underperformers; (2) weight the floor more heavily for players you draft early — a round-2 pick who has a low floor (injury-prone, role competition) is a dangerous roster anchor; a round-2 pick with a high floor (proven featured role, durable player) is more reliable even if the ceiling is slightly lower; (3) weight the ceiling more heavily for players you draft late — late-round picks are speculative by nature; you are buying potential; a high-ceiling late pick that busts costs a late-round pick; a low-ceiling late pick that performs at expectation adds limited value; (4) integrate full-season outlook with division game stacking and PPR strategy — the full-season projection should account for the specific format’s scoring multipliers and the schedule’s favorable matchups.
The projection traps to avoid:
