The injury discount calculation: a player worth a 3rd-round ADP in full health who is projected to miss weeks 1–3 due to a preseason injury may be available in the 7th–8th round at draft time. Evaluating Injured Players for Best Ball

Injury type and timeline. Not all injuries are equal for best ball purposes. An ankle sprain expected to keep a player out 2–3 weeks is a low-risk discount opportunity. An ACL tear expected to keep a player out 6–9 months (recovered in time for week 1, but with uncertainty) is a higher-risk, higher-reward opportunity.

Player age and recovery. Younger players (under 27) recover from soft tissue and joint injuries faster and more completely than older players. The same ACL tear that might end an older player’s effectiveness often fully resolves for a player in his early 20s. Weight age in your injury recovery assessment.


Drafting the Injured Player

Draft 1–2 injury speculations per team. Do not build your entire best ball roster around injured-player discounts — if multiple speculations bust or return late, your roster is compromised. One or two injury speculation picks per team is appropriate depth without over-concentrating on uncertainty.
