Best Ball QB Streaming Approach: How to Handle QB Selection in Best Ball Fantasy Football
Why late-round QB streaming is the dominant best ball strategy in standard scoring: in standard 1-QB scoring, the difference in weekly points between the QB1 (elite) and the QB8–10 (mid-tier) is smaller than the difference between WR1 and WR8–10. An elite QB might average 22–24 points; a mid-tier QB might average 17–19 points. The 5-point weekly gap is smaller than the gap at WR or RB. Spending a round-5 pick on the elite QB when a round-10 QB produces 85% of the same scoring means you sacrificed a WR or RB pick for a marginal QB upgrade — in a format where you cannot stream mid-season.

How to Select Late-Round QBs
Which QBs to target in rounds 10–15. Late-round QB selection criteria: (1) high passing volume offense (35+ attempts per game) — the QB produces more weekly points in a pass-heavy offense; even a mid-tier QB on a 40-attempt offense outperforms an elite QB on a 28-attempt offense in many weeks; (2) efficient passer who avoids interceptions — turnovers hurt QBs in most scoring systems; find late-round QBs who take care of the ball; (3) dual-threat ability — a late-round QB who adds 200+ rushing yards and 4 rushing TDs is worth significantly more than a pure pocket passer at the same ADP; (4) favorable schedule — identify QBs with favorable second-half schedules; their ceiling weeks in the back half of the season contribute most to best ball scoring in the weeks closest to typical tournament playoffs; and (5) backup QB role: the QB2 should be in a different offense than the QB1 — do not stack two QBs from the same team in case the entire offense has a bad game.
When to deviate from late-round QB. Exceptions to the streaming approach: (1) if a top-3 QB falls to rounds 5–6 due to injury concerns or market inefficiency, taking them is justified — the extra rounds spent are worth the point differential; (2) in leagues where the scoring system heavily rewards passing TDs (6 points per TD vs 4), the QB scoring range widens and elite QBs command an earlier premium; (3) in Super Flex best ball, the QB streaming approach does not apply — QBs are elite assets that must be drafted in rounds 2–5; (4) in rookie-heavy best ball formats where top veteran QBs have wide ADP spreads, there may be late-round gems with top-5 upside that are being undervalued; (5) if the late-round QB pool is particularly weak (multiple good QBs retired, injury-decimated season), bump up the round of your QB1 selection appropriately.
