Best Ball Entry Reference: How To Keep the Draft Core Close

An entry reference is the compact set of live facts you keep open during a best-ball draft — the numbers you’d otherwise misremember under a pick clock. Not a plan, not a cheat sheet of who to draft, but the objective data you look up mid-decision.

A draft reference holds the objective facts you consult under the clock — ADP tiers, roster requirements, bye clusters — so no pick is made on a misremembered number.

The distinction from a strategy sheet matters: a reference doesn’t tell you who to take or what build to run. It answers factual questions fast — “what’s this player’s ADP?”, “how many WRs can I start?”, “which weeks are bye-heavy?” — so your decision runs on real data instead of a guess.

Keep it factual. The moment it starts saying “take the upside WR here,” it’s become a strategy doc, and it belongs in your entry sheet instead.

Worked Example: The Misremembered Reach

Mid-draft, a WR you like is “available a round early” — or so you think from memory. You reach a full round to grab him, feeling clever. A glance at your ADP reference would have shown he was actually going right at that spot; you paid a round of value for nothing and cost yourself a better pick. The reference exists precisely to kill these confident-but-wrong reaches.

Common mistake: letting the reference swell into a full strategy binder. The value is speed — a fact you can find in two seconds. Once it’s long enough to scroll, you won’t check it under the clock, and its whole purpose is gone.
