Commissioner Engagement: Weekly Power Rankings and League Content
Engaged managers stay. Bored managers quit.
The best way to keep managers engaged is consistent, high-quality content. Power rankings, recaps, trash talk platforms.
Here’s how to do it sustainably.
Weekly Power Rankings (The Core Content)
What it is: A ranked list of all teams, with brief commentary.
Frequency: Every Monday after games conclude.
Template:
WEEK 5 POWER RANKINGS
1. Team A (10-0) — Elite RB, just destroyed the league
2. Team B (8-2) — Solid all around, but WR is struggling
3. Team C (7-3) — Middle of the pack, could go either way
...
What makes it work:
- Brevity: 1–2 sentences per team (not a novel)
- Personality: Use humor, emojis, trash talk
- Consistency: Same time every week
- Fairness: Rank by record/points, not personal preference
Effort: ~20 minutes per week
Weekly Recaps (The Secondary Content)
What it is: Highlight reel of the week’s biggest games.
Frequency: Same time as power rankings.
Template:
WEEK 5 RECAP
🔥 BIGGEST WINS
- Team A beat Team D 150-120 (RB had 35 points!)
- Team B squeaked past Team C 98-97
💀 PAINFUL LOSSES
- Team G lost to Team H 89-92 (TE left points on bench)
📊 STATS
- Highest score: Team A (150)
- Lowest score: Team I (65)
What makes it work:
- Narrative: Tell the story (not just scores)
- Celebration: Highlight big performances
- Sympathy: Acknowledge close losses
- Fun: Use emojis and personality
Effort: ~15 minutes per week
Consistency Is Everything
Do power rankings weekly without fail.
If you skip a week or two, managers notice. Missing engagement drops engagement.
Sustainable approach:
- Set a recurring reminder (Monday 9 AM)
- Spend 20 minutes on rankings + recaps
- Use a template (copy-paste, fill in names)
Not sustainable:
- Trying to write long, novel-length recaps (burnout)
- Skipping weeks (breaks momentum)
- Only doing it when you feel like it (inconsistent)
Engagement Metrics
Low engagement: <20% of managers participate in chat/trash talk.
High engagement: >50% of managers actively chat.
Power rankings don’t guarantee high engagement, but they create space for it.
The Payoff
Consistent engagement content:
- Keeps league alive (managers stay interested)
- Builds community (people chat about rankings)
- Reduces churn (bored managers don’t quit)
