How Picks Are Valued
Early first-round picks are the most valuable. The first overall pick in a dynasty rookie draft is the most valuable single asset in dynasty because it gives you the best available rookie — who could be an elite dynasty asset for 8–10 years. Most dynasty leagues value 1.01–1.03 picks at near-first-round startup value.
Later picks lose value quickly. A late first-round pick (1.10–1.12 in a 12-team league) has substantially less expected value than 1.01 because the best prospects are gone. Late first-round picks are often valued between a solid young veteran and a high second-round pick.
Second-round picks are workable. Second-round dynasty picks produce starting-caliber players less often than first-rounders, but they are still legitimate trade chips. Stacking multiple second-round picks can approximate a first-round pick in trade packages.
When to Buy Picks
Rebuilding teams should accumulate picks. If your dynasty team is in rebuild mode, prioritize acquiring future draft picks over trading for aging veterans. Three future first-round picks give you three chances to hit on young talent that starts your rebuild.
Buy early picks when teams are selling. Contending teams often sell future picks (especially years 2–3 out) for proven veterans. Buy these picks when the market discounts them in favor of immediate production.

Contending teams should convert picks to players. If your dynasty team is in its competitive window, convert draft picks into proven players. An unknown pick delivered in 2026 does not help you win a championship in 2025.
