Dynasty Managing a Points League: How Standard Scoring Affects Dynasty Strategy
Two identical dynasty rosters in PPR and standard scoring produce different point totals — and different players earn different values. The slot WR who catches 100 balls for 7 yards each is a PPR monster; in standard, those receptions produce zero bonus points. The pure rusher with 1,400 yards and 8 TDs is standard scoring’s premium asset. The scoring format determines the positional hierarchy, which determines every draft, trade, and roster construction decision that follows.

Startup Draft Adjustments
Move elite RBs up relative to PPR ADP. The Dalvin Cook tier of every-down featured backs rises relative to the James White tier of receiving-back specialists. Pure rushing volume and goal-line TDs — the heart of standard scoring RB production — are the most valuable stats in the format.
Move slot WRs down relative to PPR ADP. A WR who achieves value primarily through receptions (100 catches, 8.5 yards per catch) loses meaningful production in standard scoring. Prefer outside WRs with higher yards-per-reception profiles whose value comes from yardage, not catch volume.
Adjust TE strategy: elite TEs who produce from red-zone targets and big-play catches are relatively more valuable than in PPR. A TE who catches 60 balls at 12 yards per catch is closer to a TE catching 90 balls at 7 yards per catch in standard versus PPR — because the reception bonus is gone.
Worked Example: Same Roster, Different Format
Standard scoring dynasty: Roster has two WRs — Outside A (72 catches, 11 YPR, 6 TDs) and Slot B (100 catches, 7 YPR, 3 TDs).
In PPR: Outside A scores ~162 points, Slot B scores ~166 points. Roughly equal.
In standard scoring: Outside A scores ~162 points (unchanged — no reception bonus to lose). Slot B scores ~66 points — 100 fewer points, entirely from losing the per-reception bonus.
Slot B is worth dramatically less in standard scoring. A manager who drafted Slot B at PPR value in a standard scoring league overpaid by a full tier.
Common mistake: using PPR trade charts for a standard scoring league. The most widely-used dynasty trade charts are calibrated for PPR. A WR who trades at PPR value may be 10–20% lower in standard. Apply this discount consistently to both sides of every trade — so the relative value is preserved — and note the format when using any trade chart.
Trade Valuations in Standard Scoring
When acquiring a receiver in a standard scoring league, discount their value relative to PPR trade chart prices. Running backs with high rush-touch volume and goal-line involvement are worth a slight premium. Pair with a standard-scoring-specific trade chart when possible — the format adjustment on receiving yards and receptions compounds across an entire dynasty roster.
Standard scoring also changes depth decisions. A low-volume touchdown scorer may be more useful than a reception-volume player whose catches do not count. Before accepting any trade chart at face value, translate the player archetype into your scoring rules.
The safest approach is to sort players by how they score. Rush attempts, goal-line work, yards per reception, and touchdowns matter more than empty reception volume. That does not make every slot receiver bad or every early-down back good, but it changes the price you should pay.
