The NFL Draft is the dynasty market’s fastest repricing event because rookies gain landing spots and veterans gain new competition in the same weekend. Pre-Draft Dynasty Work
Know your pick positions before the NFL Draft. Before the NFL Draft, review every dynasty pick you own and calculate where it will likely fall in your rookie draft based on projected team records. A first-round rookie pick from a team projected to finish 2–15 is worth much more than a first-round pick from a team projected to finish 13–4.
This exercise matters because the NFL Draft determines the players available at each rookie draft position. Knowing approximately where you will pick helps you evaluate which prospects will likely be available to you.
Pre-rank the top 50 prospects. Before the NFL Draft, develop your own preliminary prospect rankings based on college performance, athletic profile, and positional value in dynasty. This pre-ranking gives you a baseline to compare against landing spot news as the NFL Draft unfolds.
Many dynasty managers make the mistake of letting NFL Draft night rankings drive their evaluations too strongly. NFL teams draft for their team needs; dynasty leagues have different valuation criteria (rookies who receive volume early > rookies who sit and develop).

Evaluate landing spots immediately. The moment a prospect is selected, evaluate his landing spot:
- What is the team’s passing volume? (more passes = more targets)

- What is the offensive philosophy? (run-first vs. pass-heavy)
A top-10 prospect with a bad landing spot may have less dynasty value than a late first-round prospect who lands in an ideal situation. Landing spot evaluation in the first 24 hours after the NFL Draft is high-value dynasty work.
Identify round values. As the NFL Draft progresses, note which rounds produce the prospects who interest you most. In dynasty rookie drafts, draft positions correspond to rounds — a player selected in Round 1 of the NFL Draft typically goes in the top-12 picks of the dynasty rookie draft; a player selected in Round 3–4 of the NFL Draft goes much later or not at all in dynasty rookie drafts.
Post-Draft Dynasty Moves
The 48-hour ADP window. Dynasty ADP moves fastest in the 48 hours following the NFL Draft. Prospect ADP that was low before the draft — because the landing spot was unknown — resets dramatically after the draft when landing spots are confirmed.
This 48-hour window is the best time to buy or sell picks and players based on new landing spot information. A prospect who landed in a perfect situation whose dynasty ADP has not yet adjusted is a buy. A player whose dynasty value just fell because his NFL team drafted a direct replacement at his position is a sell.
Reassess veteran values. When a team drafts a young player at a position, the veteran in that position may have just lost value. A veteran WR1 whose team spent a first-round pick on a WR is not automatically a sell — but evaluate whether the draft pick signals a transition plan.
Update your pick values. After the NFL Draft, update your projections for each pick you own. Which picks improved in expected value (teams that did not address key position needs — their incumbent starters just became more valuable)? Which picks decreased (teams that rebuilt and may now be better)?
Worked Example: Post-Draft Market Moves
The rookie with a clean depth chart should move up quickly if the team invested meaningful draft capital and the incumbent competition is weak. This does not mean talent stops mattering, but opportunity can create early dynasty value before the market fully updates.
The veteran whose team drafted a replacement needs a timeline read. If the rookie was drafted as a future successor, the veteran may remain useful for contenders. If the rookie directly attacks the same role, the veteran becomes a sell before camp reports confirm the squeeze.
The future pick from an improved roster may lose value if the NFL Draft made that team better. A first that once looked early can become a mid or late first after the team fixes quarterback, offensive line, or skill-position holes.
The post-draft process is to update rookies, veterans, and picks together. Treating the NFL Draft as only a rookie event misses half the dynasty value movement.
