Dynasty: How to Value Quarterbacks in Non-Superflex and Superflex Leagues
The most important variable in dynasty QB valuation is your league’s format, not the quarterback. The same QB can be worth a first-round pick in superflex and nearly nothing in single-QB. Confirm your format before evaluating any QB.
Format Context
Single-QB leagues: 32 NFL starters, 12 dynasty teams. Supply exceeds demand. Only the top 3–4 QBs have genuine dynasty value. After that, the position is largely interchangeable.
Superflex leagues: Every team starts 2 QBs. 12 teams × 2 = 24 starting QBs needed. Only 32 NFL starters exist. QB is genuinely scarce. This changes everything.

Should I buy?
- Is he a confirmed NFL starter (not in a competition)? → YES for superflex — buy aggressively. Young QBs with starting roles are the highest-ceiling dynasty assets in superflex.
- Single-QB: Is he projecting top-5 fantasy output? → Mid-first round dynasty value. Otherwise wait.
- Does he have rushing ability? → Strong buy in either format. Rushing QBs age better and have higher floors.
Should I sell? Rarely. A young starting QB under 25 is a hold in almost all circumstances unless the return is exceptional.
Ages 26–34 (Prime)
Should I buy?
- Superflex: Top-12 fantasy producer? → Buy; still 6–8 years of production ahead
- Single-QB: Top-3 fantasy producer consistently? → Buy at appropriate price (mid-to-late 1st)
- Single-QB, QB ranked 4–12: → Only as filler; don’t pay premium prices
Should I sell?
- Superflex, age 32+: → Evaluate sell. You’re buying 2–3 more years, not 8.
- Single-QB: Any QB not in your top 3 → Sell for any positive return; the position is not scarce.
- Just had a career year at 31+? → Peak market value; consider selling now.
Ages 35+
Should I buy?
- Contending team in a championship window → Current-year production only, not dynasty value. Treat as a rental.
- Rebuilding → No.
Should I sell? Yes. Move on. Dynasty value is near zero regardless of current-year production.
The Superflex Startup Draft
Rounds 1–3: QBs go in every round. Some managers take 2 QBs in the first 4 picks. Target 1 elite QB + 1 solid starter before Round 5.
The QB run: When other teams start drafting QBs back-to-back, you may need to join the run or accept thin QB options at Round 6+.
Strategy: Don’t sacrifice multiple premium picks for a second elite QB at the expense of WR/RB depth. One elite QB + one Tier 2 QB is sufficient.
4 Common QB Valuation Mistakes
1. Overpaying for aging QBs in superflex. A 36-year-old who is still top-5 has 1–2 more seasons, not 4–5. Don’t pay peak prices for a declining asset.
2. Ignoring rushing QBs. QBs with 400+ rushing yards/season have a higher fantasy floor in every format. Rushing ability often outlasts throwing ability — rushing QBs age well.
3. Non-superflex teams drafting QBs too early. The position is not scarce in single-QB. Let QBs fall and invest in WRs and RBs.
4. Superflex teams waiting past Round 4. By the end of Round 4 in a superflex startup, the top 8–10 QBs are often gone. Zero QBs through 4 rounds in superflex = a structural hole.
