The advanced metrics advantage: traditional stats measure what happened; advanced metrics measure why it happened and predict what will happen next. A WR who has 40 yards on 2 catches looks unremarkable in box scores — but if those 2 catches came on 12 targets with 150 air yards, the underlying opportunity volume predicts a breakout in any game where those targets convert at a higher rate.

Key Advanced Metrics
Air yards. Air yards measure the distance the ball travels in the air from the line of scrimmage to the catch point (or drop point). A WR who accumulates 150 air yards per game has a high-ceiling role regardless of actual catch totals — air yards correlate strongly with WR fantasy ceiling.
Expected points added (EPA). EPA measures the change in expected points on each play. A QB with high EPA per dropback is efficient — he is converting opportunities into more expected points than a baseline QB would. High EPA QBs tend to sustain their efficiency better than QBs who pile up yards in garbage time.
Snap Count Percentage
Role stability indicator. Snap count percentage tells you how consistently a player is on the field. A RB who plays 80% of snaps is a featured back even if he has modest stats — he will see more opportunity in a good game environment. A RB at 40% snaps is a committee back who needs specific game scripts to produce.
