The high-total game creates more scoring opportunities — more passing attempts, more offensive snaps, and more potential for the fantasy-relevant plays (touchdowns, long completions) that accumulate fantasy points.

Using Game Totals Practically
As a tiebreaker between similar players. Game total projections are most useful as a tiebreaker when choosing between two similar players with otherwise equal profiles. If RB A and RB B have similar production metrics and roster situations, but RB A is in a game with a 50-point total and RB B is in a game with a 40-point total, the game environment provides a marginal edge toward RB A.
Do not override talent with game totals. A superior player in a low-total game generally outscores an inferior player in a high-total game — game environment is a secondary consideration, not a substitute for player quality. RB1s and WR1s in negative game environments still score more than backups in positive environments.
Limitations of Game Total Analysis
Variance is high. Game totals are projections — actual games diverge from projected totals regularly. A 50-point game sometimes ends 13–10; a 38-point game sometimes ends 42–28. Game total analysis adds marginal expected value when applied across many decisions but cannot predict individual game outcomes. Use it as one signal among many, not the primary decision factor.
