QB streaming works because the position has deep enough talent in 1QB leagues that the difference between QB5 and QB12 in a given week is often smaller than the week-to-week variance of any individual QB. A QB12 in a great matchup frequently outscores a QB5 in a poor matchup.

How to Identify Good QB Streaming Matchups
Target QBs against bottom-tier pass defenses. Pass defense rankings (points allowed to QB, pass DVOA) identify which defenses are exploitable. A streaming QB facing a defense allowing top-5 QB production is a strong weekly option.
Target QBs in dome games or favorable weather. Indoor or dome games eliminate weather as a variable suppressing passing volume. QBs playing in domes consistently produce higher passing volumes than outdoor games in adverse weather.
Target QBs on teams with negative game script. A team expected to trail (implied team total significantly below opponent) typically passes more as the game progresses. Game totals and spreads from betting markets identify these games.
When QB Streaming Fails
Bye week stacks. If your streaming QB and all available replacements are on bye in the same week, streaming fails. Carry two streaming QBs when possible to cover bye weeks.
