Fantasy Football TD Equity: How Touchdown Equity Affects Player Value
Touchdowns are high-variance in week-to-week fantasy — a player can have an excellent performance without scoring, and an average performance is inflated by a single TD. But over a full season, touchdown equity (consistent scoring opportunity) is highly predictive of total touchdown count.

What Touchdown Equity Means
Red zone targets and carries. TD equity starts with red zone usage — how often does this player get the ball inside the opponent’s 20-yard line? A WR who leads his team in red zone targets accumulates TD opportunities that teammates without red zone usage do not.
Goal-line carries. RBs with goal-line duties have high TD equity. A team’s featured back inside the 5-yard line will score multiple rushing TDs per season almost regardless of his pass-catching usage.
Why TD Equity Matters for Fantasy Decisions
Regression to the mean. A player who leads his team in red zone targets but has zero TDs through 5 weeks is not unlucky and not bad — he is likely to score multiple TDs in the coming weeks as the statistical sample normalizes. Buy on low-TD players with high TD equity.
Sell on fluky TD totals. A player who leads his team in touchdowns but has minimal red zone targets is likely experiencing positive TD variance — his total will drop later in the season. Do not pay for touchdowns that were not driven by sustainable scoring opportunity.
