Fantasy Football Weather Impact: How Weather Affects Fantasy Player Production

The most overblown weather narrative in fantasy: light rain. Rain below heavy precipitation levels has essentially no statistical impact on passing game production. Managers who sit their WR1 because there is a 30% chance of rain are making decisions based on anxiety, not data.

Weather Conditions That Genuinely Matter

High winds (20+ mph sustained). Wind above 20 mph sustained meaningfully reduces passing efficiency and particularly deep ball success. In outdoor stadiums with high consistent wind, consider downgrading WRs who rely on contested deep targets and upgrading RBs.

Heavy snow. True heavy snowfall — not a dusting — can slow the pace of play and favor run-first offenses. RBs on teams with strong running games get a slight boost; WRs and QBs get a slight downgrade.

Extreme cold. Cold below 15–20°F can affect passing efficiency. However, the modern NFL has dome teams and teams used to cold weather. The impact is modest for seasoned cold-weather teams.
