End-of-Season Awards: Recognizing Managers Beyond the Championship
The championship is one award.
Create fun awards for other achievements: Most Points, Best Trade, Most Improved, Biggest Bust. Non-monetary fun awards build culture beyond the money prize.
The Award Categories
Regular Season Awards:
-
Most Points: Total points scored all season (not record, just volume)
- Reward: “Offensive Powerhouse” bragging rights
- Announce: “Harbor Kings scored 1,400 points (most in league)”
-
Best Trade: Manager or league votes on the best trade (most lopsided in right direction)
- Reward: Bragging rights or small prize ($20)
- Example: “Delta Flex traded for a slow-starting WR1 before the rebound”
-
Most Improved: Biggest jump from year 1 to year 2 (if keeper league)
- Reward: “Rising Star” recognition
- Example: “Sunday Ledger went from 4-10 to 9-5”
-
Biggest Bust: Worst high-draft-pick outcome
- Reward: “Oops” trophy (humorous, not mean)
- Example: “Bayou Blitz used a first-round pick on a player who missed most of the year”
-
Waiver Wire Champion: Best free agent pickups mid-season
- Reward: Bragging rights
- Example: “North End added three weekly starters from waivers”
Award Rules to Set Before Voting
| Award | Data source | Who decides | Guardrail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Most Points | Platform standings | Automatic | Use total points, not points per game |
| Best Trade | Trade log | Manager vote | Present the final short list without campaigning |
| Most Improved | Current and prior standings | Commissioner | Define the baseline season before voting |
| Waiver Wire Champion | Transaction log | Commissioner or vote | Count impact adds, not just volume |
| Best Manager Moment | League chat and recaps | Manager vote | Keep nominations positive |
Publish the rules in the year-end note before people vote. That keeps awards from feeling improvised after the commissioner already knows who benefits.
The Voting Process
Manager Vote (Week 16):
- Email: “Vote for Best Trade of 2025”
- Provide top 3 trades from the year
- Managers vote (plurality wins)
Or Commissioner Pick:
- You pick the award winners based on data
- Announce in year-end email
The Worked Example
Year-End Email:
2025 SEASON AWARDS
CHAMPIONSHIP: Harbor Kings
MOST POINTS: Delta Flex (1,410 total points)
BEST TRADE: Sunday Ledger bought low on a WR1 in Week 6
"Classic mid-season pivot from RB depth to receiver ceiling"
MOST IMPROVED: North End (4-10 last year -> 8-6 this year)
"Great turnaround with updated draft strategy"
BIGGEST BUST: Bayou Blitz's first-round pick missed most of the season
"Rough break, clean process, see you next year"
WAIVER WIRE CHAMPION: Uptown Bench
"Added five useful starters across the middle of the season"
See you next season!
The Tone
Keep awards fun and light.
Biggest Bust is humorous (everyone gets busted sometimes), not mean-spirited.
Best Trade celebrates good decisions, not luck.
If a category would embarrass one manager more than it entertains the league, rewrite it. “Best Bad Beat” is usually better than “Worst Manager,” and “Toughest Injury Luck” is better than making one roster the joke.
