Dynasty Receiver Corps: How to Evaluate WR Target Share Within a Team's Receiving Corps

The target share math: an NFL team throws approximately 550–600 passes per season. A WR with 25% target share receives 137–150 targets. A WR with 15% target share receives 82–90 targets. This difference is enormous for PPR scoring — the 25% WR scores 50+ more fantasy points from catches alone.

Evaluating Receiver Corps in Dynasty

Identify the WR1 clear vs contested. Is there a clear WR1 who commands 25%+ target share — or does the team spread targets evenly across three WRs each seeing 15%? A clear WR1 with concentrated target share is more valuable than a WR on a spread offense.

Track target share changes with roster moves. When an NFL team drafts a WR1 in round 1, the current WR1 loses target share. That immediate change is often not priced into dynasty ADP quickly enough — the new WR1 is a buy, the displaced WR1 is a sell.


Identifying Target Share Opportunities

Injury to WR1 creates opportunity for WR2. When a WR1 gets injured, his target share flows to the next receiver in line. In dynasty, identify which teams have talented WR2s who would become WR1s in an injury — these players are perpetual buy-low candidates because their value is dependent on injury risk that is always possible.
