Prioritizing Targets by Availability
Motivated sellers. The most efficient trade opportunities arise when another manager has a clear motivation to sell a specific player. A manager who just suffered a quarterback injury and is in last place has motivation to sell players they may otherwise hold. A contending team that needs RB depth for the playoffs has motivation to buy an RB and sell a future first-round pick. Identifying which managers are in these motivated-seller or motivated-buyer positions focuses negotiation energy on the most productive conversations.
Market timing. Dynasty target selection is also about timing — a player just injured in week 8 has their market value most depressed in week 8 and 9 while the injury news is fresh, but may be available at a discount for a manager who does the injury-type research and determines recovery is likely before the dynasty community reprices the player. Acting before the market consensus is the primary timing edge available in dynasty.
Building Long-Term Relationships
Repeat trade partners. Dynasty managers who develop reputations as fair, honest traders tend to have more productive trade relationships over multiple seasons. When managers trust that a trade offer reflects genuine belief in player value (rather than a lowball to see what can be extracted), the negotiation process is faster and more efficient. Managers who are known to offer fair deals get their offers evaluated more seriously and generate more counter-offers than managers who consistently open with extreme lowball proposals.
