Dynasty Fantasy Football: How to React to NFL Free Agency Signings
NFL free agency is one of the highest-activity periods of the dynasty offseason. Teams change dramatically in two weeks. The managers who react well don’t just follow the news — they have a framework for sorting which signings matter and acting quickly while prices are still being set.

The 48-72 Hour Window
Dynasty markets reprice free agency signings within 48–72 hours. This is when:
- Buy-low windows on players whose situations improved are widest
- Sell-high windows on players whose situations worsened are most valuable
After 72 hours, the consensus adjusts. Players in good situations cost more. Players in bad situations cost less. The edge is in being first.
How to act in the window:
- Identify the situation change
- Project what it means for targets, carries, or touches
- Make a trade offer before the rest of the league catches up
For positive signings: make offers on the beneficiary before ADP adjusts. For negative signings: gauge interest in selling your impacted player while their ADP still carries pre-signing optimism.
Position-Specific Checks
Wide receiver: Who is the WR1 after the signing? What was the previous WR1’s target share? Is this WR stepping into a clear role or competing?
Running back: What was the depth chart before the signing? Does this player move into a starting role or split carries? Is the offensive line better or worse than their prior team?
Quarterback: Assess both the offense they left and the offense they joined. Supporting cast quality matters as much as the QB’s individual skill.
Tight end: Is this a receiving TE or a blocking TE? What was the team’s previous TE situation and why is this a change?
Annual Free Agency Checklist
Each March during the free agency period:
- Pull your dynasty roster and flag any player changing teams
- For each: note their new role, new supporting cast, and new offensive system
- Identify 3–5 players available in your league who benefited from free agency moves
- Make trade offers on those players in the first 48 hours
- Flag any dynasty players whose value dropped due to new arrivals — decide whether to sell or hold before the market fully reprices
