Dynasty: How Scoring Formats Affect Player Values

Dynasty scoring is not a cosmetic setting; it is the value engine for the entire league. The format your league uses changes which players are most valuable, often dramatically. Before you make a trade, draft a rookie, or compare rankings from another source, know how your specific scoring settings change the calculus. A player who is a stable starter in full PPR can be replaceable in standard scoring, and a quarterback who looks ordinary in one-QB can become a premium asset in Superflex.

Player Type Ranking by Format

The same player type has different dynasty value in different formats. Use this to reorder your mental rankings when you enter a new league or evaluate cross-format trades.

Standard (0 PPR) dynasty priority order:

Goalline RBs (TDs dominate)
Volume passing QBs (in Superflex, see below)
High-yardage WRs with TD share
TEs who score (blocking TEs are nearly worthless)
Pass-catching RBs (receiving devalued)

0.5 PPR (most common competitive format):

Three-down RBs with receiving work
High-target WRs (100+ catch ceiling)
QBs (Superflex dependent)
Elite TEs (minimal premium without TEP)
Slot WRs with volume but modest TDs

1.0 PPR:

Volume receivers above all — 100+ catch WRs and PPR RBs are dramatically elevated
Slot WRs with target share (100-target seasons are worth significantly more)
Pass-catching RBs can match low-end WR1 production
Stretch WRs with low target volume are devalued (few catches = few PPR points)
Goalline-only RBs drop significantly (no receiving = no PPR bonus)

TE Premium (0.5 or 1.0 added per TE reception):

Elite TEs (top 3) are worth WR1 dynasty investment in 1.0 TEP
The gap between top-3 TEs and streaming TEs is enormous — permanent
All non-TE positions adjust downward slightly (the premium resources go to TE)
If you don’t own an elite TE in a TEP league, acquiring one is your #1 priority

Superflex / 2QB:

QBs are the #1 draft priority — take two QBs before your first WR if needed
QBs 13–24 become genuinely scarce (demand doubled, supply fixed)
RBs drop in relative priority (premium resources shift to QB)
WRs remain valuable but you need to fill QB before loading WR depth

Format-Specific Trade Strategy

Exploiting the mismatch: If the trade calculator being used in your league is built for 0.5 PPR but your league plays 1.0 PPR, high-volume WRs and PPR RBs are undervalued in that calculator for your format. Buy them at the calculator price; they’re worth more in your league.

Selling cross-format: If a manager in your league is using a default ranking source that doesn’t account for your TEP or Superflex settings, you may be able to sell a TE or QB at below-market prices from your perspective — because their mental model is pricing it wrong.

Commissioner Format Guidance

Changing scoring settings mid-dynasty is incredibly disruptive. Managers made multi-year commitments based on original settings.

Choose your format before Year 1 and commit
Most popular high-skill dynasty setup: 0.5 PPR, TE premium 0.5, no kicker, Superflex optional
Only add Superflex if every manager in the league understands that QBs become a 1st-round necessity — it changes how you evaluate every roster decision
Allow setting changes only in the offseason with advance notice before the following year’s draft

Worked Example: Superflex Shift

A league moves from one-QB to Superflex. Suddenly, quarterbacks are not replaceable depth; they become core dynasty assets. Teams with two stable starters gain value, and teams with weak QB rooms face a structural problem.

That kind of format change should not be made casually. It changes startup values, trade values, and rookie pick strategy.
