Dynasty Value Archive: How To Keep the Market History You Will Actually Use

A dynasty value archive is what you keep after a season ends. Where a log runs live all year, the archive is the pruned, preserved version you carry into next offseason — the few price points and decisions that will still matter in March, distilled from the hundreds that scrolled by in-season.

An archive is a season’s value history compressed to only what your future self will actually reopen.

The archiving act is deliberate deletion. A live log is allowed to be noisy because you are reading it week to week. An archive is read months later, cold, so anything that will not inform a real future decision is dead weight. The skill is choosing what survives.

What Survives Archiving

For each asset you carried, one archive line — the entry price, the exit or year-end price, and the lesson that outlasts the season.

Asset Draft cost Year-end value Kept? The lesson to carry
Sam LaPorta 6th-rd rookie pick early 1st Held TE1 breakouts pay for patience
Zay Flowers mid-1st mid-2nd Sold Volume w/o efficiency fades
Kenneth Walker premium 1st flat Held Talent ≠ value when role is split

Notice what is not here: the Week 7 blip, the trade that fell through, the hype that reverted. Those belonged in the log. The archive keeps only the resolved outcome and its transferable lesson.

Worked Example: The March Reopen

Next March you are valuing an incoming rookie TE and wondering whether to pay up. You reopen the archive, find the LaPorta line, and see it plainly: last year’s cheap TE turned into an early-first asset, and the lesson you wrote was “breakouts pay for patience.” That one preserved line reshapes how you price this year’s rookie TEs — which is the entire return on having archived.

Common mistake: Copying the whole log into the archive. An archive that keeps every in-season wiggle is just a log with a new name, and cold-reading it in March is exhausting enough that you never do. Prune ruthlessly; the value is in what you left out.

The takeaway: a live log is complete, an archive is curated. Keep the resolved outcome and the lesson; let the noise die with the season.
