Dynasty Value Log: How To Track the Market Over Time
A dynasty value log is an ongoing, running record of how prices move across a season. Where a note captures one conviction and freezes it, a log is a continuous timeline: you add a row every time a meaningful price shift happens, so that by December you can see the whole arc of an asset’s value instead of just today’s number.
A value log’s job is to show trajectory — the slope of a player’s price, not a single point on it.
The reason trajectory beats a snapshot is that dynasty value rarely moves in straight lines. A rookie spikes on hype, sags at the bye, climbs again after a breakout. Only a running log shows you which of those moves stuck and which reverted, and that pattern is what you actually trade on.
A Running Log’s Columns
Keep it append-only. Each row is a moment; the value is in reading them top to bottom.

Read down the “Trigger” column and the story writes itself: usage lifted him, injury inflated him, the committee correction pulled him back. A single-date note would have caught only one frame of that.
Worked Example: Reading the Slope
Suppose you want to sell Gibbs. Looking only at the Nov 12 peak, selling feels obvious. But the log’s slope tells you why he peaked — a teammate injury, not a durable role change. That is a fragile input, so the log tells you to sell into the spike before Montgomery returns, which your Dec 01 row confirms was the right window.
Common mistake: Treating the log like a note — logging only when you make a trade. A log that skips the quiet weeks has no slope to read, just scattered dots. Log the non-events too; a flat stretch is information.
The takeaway: a value log earns its keep only when it is continuous. The gaps between entries are where the trajectory lives.
