Dynasty Value Checklist: How To Verify the Market Before You Trade
In dynasty, “value” is not a number in a ranking app — it’s what someone in your league will actually give you, adjusted for how likely the player is to still be worth it in two years. A value checklist is the set of concrete signals you verify about an asset before you trade for it or away, so you’re pricing the player instead of the highlight reel.
Before you send an offer, every asset in it should clear the seven signals below — a player who fails three or more is a hold or a sell, not a buy.

The point of columns three and four is comparison: an asset that’s all green flags is a buy at market; one that’s mostly red is only a sell target, however good the name looks.
Worked Example: Buying a 27-Year-Old Bell-Cow RB
He just went for 140 yards and two scores, and his manager is quietly shopping him. The ranking app still has him RB8.
- Age: 27, on the wrong side of the RB curve — red.
- Draft capital: former first-rounder — green.
- Opportunity: true three-down back, 75% snaps — green.
- Market direction: price spiking off one huge game — red.
- Cost: owner wants a first plus a young WR — that’s paying the peak.
Two hard reds (age, spiking price) plus a top-of-market cost. The signal isn’t “bad player,” it’s “bad entry point.” You wait, or you’re the one buying the peak.
Common mistake: Treating a ranking number as the value. Rankings are a lagging average of a hundred leagues; your trade happens in one, against one manager, with one roster’s needs. Verify the signals, not the rank.
The takeaway: a checklist is a filter you apply to a specific asset before a specific deal — it tells you whether this player, at this price, this week, is worth it. It’s not a plan for your whole roster; that’s a different job.
