Dynasty Value Checklist: How To Keep the Market Covered Before You Trade

Before you send a dynasty trade offer, there are a handful of things worth confirming so you don’t trade off a price that already moved or a role that already changed. A value checklist is the list you run through on the specific players involved, not a general theory of the market.

TL;DR: Verify each player’s current market price, the news driving it, their age and contract runway, and how the deal changes your win window before you hit send.

Unlike a market framework (how to think about value in the abstract), a checklist is concrete: you literally point at each asset in the deal and answer yes or no.

What To Confirm On Each Asset

Check Where to look Green flag Red flag
Current price KTC / FantasyCalc, updated this week Trade calculators agree within ~10% Sources disagree by 20%+ (price in flux)
Price driver Recent news, snap trends, injury reports Change tied to real usage Move driven by one hot game
Age vs. window Player age + your team’s timeline Young asset for a rebuild 29-year-old RB on a rebuilder
Contract/role Depth chart, offseason moves Locked-in starter role New coordinator or drafted competitor
Return balance Both sides of the deal You gain at your position of need Trading a need to fill a strength

Worked Example: A WR-for-picks offer

You’re offered a 26-year-old WR2 coming off a career year for a 2027 first and a 2027 second. The calculators price the WR around a mid-first. You check the driver: his production spiked because the team’s WR1 missed six games, and that WR1 is back healthy. You check the window: you’re 3-6 and rebuilding. The picks fit your timeline; the aging-into-a-crowd WR does not. You counter for a 2028 first instead.

Common mistake: Anchoring to the peak-season price. A calculator reflecting a career year is a lagging number — if the usage that produced it won’t repeat, you’re buying at the top.

Takeaway: the checklist isn’t about finding the “right” answer, it’s about making sure no line item surprises you after the trade clears.
