Fantasy Football Stack Strategy: How Stacking Works in Fantasy Football

The stacking logic: when a QB plays well (high passing yards, multiple TDs), his receivers also benefit. A game where the QB throws for 400 yards and 4 TDs almost certainly means 1–2 of those WRs had huge games too. By owning both, you capture both ends of that correlated ceiling performance rather than having the QB’s great game be offset by poor performance elsewhere.

Common Stack Types

QB + WR1 (same team). The most straightforward stack. When your QB plays well, your WR1 from his team is likely to share in the production. This is most useful in formats that reward high-scoring weeks significantly (best ball, tournaments).

QB + WR + opposing pass-catcher (game stack). The game stack extends the QB+WR stack by adding an opposing team pass-catcher. In a high-scoring game, both offenses score — owning a player from each team captures both offenses’ upside. This is the most common best ball tournament stack structure.


Stacking in Redraft Leagues

Less common but valid. In redraft leagues, stacking is valid but requires roster construction tradeoffs. Holding 3 players from the same team (QB, WR1, TE) means you are vulnerable to a single team having a bad week. Most redraft managers limit stacking to 2 players maximum.
