Fantasy Football Team Stacking: What Is Stacking and How to Stack Your Fantasy Team

The logic behind stacking is correlation: when a QB throws a touchdown pass, both the QB and the WR or TE who caught it score fantasy points. Negative correlation (playing against a player or team) means one player scoring reduces the other’s expected output. Stacking maximizes positive correlation.

Types of Stacks

QB + WR1 (primary stack). The most common stack. Rostering a QB alongside his top target creates direct positive correlation — when the QB is efficient and throwing touchdowns, the WR accumulates targets, yards, and likely scores.

QB + WR1 + WR2 (bring-back). A bring-back adds a WR or TE from the opposing team. The theory is that high-scoring shootout games produce fantasy points for both sides. You capture value regardless of which team controls the scoring tempo.

QB + TE. In TE premium leagues or when a QB has an elite tight end as his red zone target, QB + TE is a high-upside stack for big games.


When Stacking Makes Sense

Stacking works best in DFS contests, best ball tournaments, and in season-long leagues when you are behind and need upside to compete. In safe redraft formats, stacking creates week-to-week variance — both players can boom or both can bust.
