Everyone can see today’s ADP. The edge is in seeing where it’s going. ADP on major best-ball platforms updates continuously based on drafts, news, and shifting consensus. A manager who correctly predicts which players’ ADP will rise drafts them at lower prices before the market catches up. A manager who spots players whose ADP has already risen past true value avoids overpaying and redirects that pick to something better. ADP trend analysis is one of the most reliable pre-draft edges in best ball.

The 24–72 Hour ADP Lag
Most major best-ball platforms update ADP from aggregated draft data on a rolling basis. When news breaks — a starter gets hurt, a rookie is named a starter at camp, a WR1’s contract dispute gets resolved — the ADP of affected players doesn’t reflect the news instantly. It reflects how quickly the field reacts and processes the information into actual draft picks.
That lag is typically 24–72 hours. A news event breaking Monday morning may not fully price into ADP until Wednesday or Thursday. A manager who drafts the beneficiary on Monday evening captures real value — not from superior information, but from faster action on the same information everyone has.
The tightest windows are injury news and depth-chart changes. When a RB1 goes down in training camp, the backup’s ADP can move 30–50 spots in 48 hours. Draft the backup within 24 hours or the window closes.
Worked Example: Two Reactions to the Same News
Sunday night: A team’s WR1 goes on IR with a shoulder injury. He’s out 8–10 weeks. The WR2’s prior ADP: 68. His season-long target projection was 80 targets. Now he projects for 130+ targets with a clear WR1 opportunity.
Manager A (Monday morning): Sees the news, checks the platform — WR2’s ADP still shows 70. Takes him in round 4 (pick 44) in a Monday draft. ADP data hasn’t corrected yet.
Manager B (Wednesday afternoon): Same news, same analysis — but waits two days. WR2’s ADP has corrected to 38. He takes the same player for a round-1 pick equivalent.
Same player, same information. Manager A paid fair value for a WR1 opportunity; Manager B paid first-round cost for the same asset. The lag in ADP correction was the entire difference.
Common mistake: confusing narrative ADP rises with opportunity ADP rises. When a player’s ADP rises 25 spots because he “looked great in camp” with no depth chart change and no concrete role evidence, the rise is narrative — and narrative often corrects once the season starts and real data arrives. Opportunity is concrete: the starter in front of him is injured, traded, or released. Opportunity drives durable ADP value. Narrative deflates.
ADP Trends to Avoid
The narrative hype trap. A player whose ADP rises sharply on summer buzz, scheme-fit speculation, or analyst enthusiasm without a confirmed role change often sees the ADP correct back down once real-season data replaces offseason optimism. Avoid paying ADP-30 prices for ADP-55 players on narrative alone.
The injury overcorrection trap. When a starter is injured, the backup’s ADP sometimes jumps past fair value. Before drafting, verify: is the backup actually stepping into a true feature role, or inheriting a committee situation with limited upside? The injury doesn’t guarantee the backup’s role is valuable. Evaluate the role, not just the vacancy.
Correlation lag. When a QB’s ADP rises meaningfully, his WR1’s ADP should follow — but often lags by several days.
