Receiver B plays for a run-heavy offense (43% pass rate, power-run scheme) that throws it 28 times — as the WR2 there, he’s fighting for 4–5 targets.
Same role on paper, very different fantasy outlook. Receiver A’s environment mechanically feeds him volume; Receiver B’s caps his ceiling no matter how good he is. The pass-volume gap is worth more than a tier of talent here. A manager who drafts on name or role alone treats them equally; one who reads the offensive environment prioritizes Receiver A and fades Receiver B — and in best ball, where you’re chasing ceiling, the high-volume passing offense is where the spike weeks live.
Common mistake: valuing pass-catchers by talent and role while ignoring the volume of the offense they play in. A QB’s and his receivers’ production is largely mechanical — driven by how often the team passes — so a WR2 on a 58% pass offense can easily out-produce a more talented WR2 on a 43% run-heavy team.
