Best Ball Correlation Plays: How to Stack Correlated Players in Best Ball

In best ball, your lineup is optimized automatically — you do not lose points by holding a bad player on the bench. What you can control is the ceiling of your best weeks. Correlated stacks increase the probability that multiple players have big games simultaneously, which is the profile that wins best ball tournaments.

High-Correlation Stacks in Best Ball

QB + WR1 stack (same team). The strongest correlation in fantasy football is between a QB and his primary receiver. When a QB throws for 350 yards and 3 TDs, his WR1 often accounts for a significant share of that production. Drafting both the QB and his primary WR concentrates upside — when the QB goes off, the WR likely does too.

QB + pass-game opponents (game stack). The second type of correlation stack is pairing a QB with his own WR1, plus a receiver from the opposing team. High-scoring games tend to produce fantasy points for players on both sides. If you expect Team A vs Team B to be a high-scoring shootout, owning the QB from Team A plus a receiver from Team B gives you exposure to both sides of the expected scoring.

RB + opposing defense. Negative correlation play: if your opponent is likely to hold a large lead, your RB from that team benefits while the opposing offense struggles. This is less commonly exploited but valid for building diversified best ball rosters.


When to Use Correlation Stacks

In best ball formats with large prize pools (200+ player tournaments), tournament-style stacks are essential — you need boom weeks to differentiate from the field. In smaller 6-man best ball leagues, the correlation upside is less critical than raw player quality.
