Best Ball Schedule Strength: How to Use NFL Schedule Data in Your Best Ball Draft
Schedule strength is a real but limited factor in best ball. Unlike redraft where you can stream players against weak defenses weekly, in best ball the schedule data you care about is the aggregate picture — does your WR face 10 easy pass defenses or 3 easy pass defenses across the full season? The cumulative schedule effect can account for 5–10% variation in production.

What Schedule Strength Measures
Opponent pass defense DVOA or points allowed to WRs/QBs. The most useful schedule metric for fantasy purposes is how many points a defense has historically allowed to specific positions — usually measured as points per game allowed to WRs, QBs, or TEs. A WR facing a defense that allows the most points to receivers has a favorable matchup.
At the season level, aggregate the matchups. For best ball purposes, you want to know the full-season schedule, not just week 1. Count how many of your team’s 17 games are against bottom-half pass defenses. More soft matchups equals more expected production.
How Schedule Affects Best Ball Strategy
All else equal, take the player with the better schedule. When two WRs are essentially tied in your player evaluation — similar roles, similar talent, similar price — the one with a materially better schedule across Weeks 1–17 should get the edge.
Do not overweight schedule. Schedule is a tiebreaker, not a primary driver. A WR with a great schedule but limited role (4 targets per game) is still worse than a WR with an average schedule and a strong role (9 targets per game). Volume and role consistency trump schedule strength.
