Dynasty: What Happens to Your Roster When the League Changes Scoring Formats

When your dynasty league changes scoring formats — adding PPR, TE premium, or superflex — your existing roster valuations shift immediately. The managers who act in the first 72 hours capture most of the upside. Managers who wait pay full adjusted prices.

72-Hour Action Checklist

When a format change is announced, you have a 72-hour window before most managers process the implications. Act:

Step 1: Identify your winners and losers (under the new format)

  • Which players on your roster gained value? Note them.
  • Which players on your roster lost value? Note them.

Step 2: Make your sell-high moves

  • Your assets that gained value are now worth more. Sell them at the new valuation before the market settles.
  • Example: League adds superflex → you have 2 top-8 QBs → sell one immediately at post-announcement peak pricing. Managers scrambling to add QB depth will overpay now vs. in 2 weeks.

Step 3: Make your buy-low moves

  • Assets you need under the new format are cheapest now, before demand spikes.
  • Example: League adds TE Premium → you’re light on TE → buy a quality TE now before prices adjust upward.

Step 4: Review open trade offers

  • Were you offered anything in the past week that looks different now? Accept or counter with new valuations in mind.

Format-Specific Adjustments

Adding PPR (Standard → Half-PPR or Full PPR)

Buy: WRs with high route participation and target volume, pass-catching RBs, TEs used in the passing game. Sell: Pure rushing RBs with minimal pass-catching roles — they don’t benefit from the change. KTC/FantasyCalc will lag 24–48 hours behind the true new values. Use that window.

Adding TE Premium

This is the single format change with the most concentrated impact. Elite TEs (consistent 80+ reception per season, featured role) appreciate 25–40% in dynasty value immediately.

If you own a top-3 dynasty TE: you have a choice between selling at peak post-announcement value or holding your appreciated asset. Both are reasonable. If you lack a quality TE: you’re now in a structural disadvantage. Buy before prices finish adjusting.

Switching to Superflex

The most dramatic format change in dynasty. Elite QBs go from valuable to essential. Every manager now needs 2 starting-caliber QBs.

If you have QB depth: sell one QB at peak post-announcement value. Trade away the depth at the highest pricing you’ll see. If you’re QB-short: buy immediately, before the market peaks. The window is 24–48 hours.

Roster Audit After a Format Change

Within one week:

  1. Which players on my roster gained value? Hold or sell at premium.
  2. Which players lost value? Sell before market fully reprices.
  3. What position gap does the new format create? Address before prices normalize.
  4. Am I relatively stronger or weaker vs. the rest of the league? If weaker, overweight the buying side; if stronger, take advantage of managers who haven’t realized it yet.

How to Vote on a Format Change

If your dynasty league is voting on a format change, evaluate it through your current roster:

  • Vote yes if the change benefits your existing assets (you hold 2 elite QBs → vote superflex; you hold 2 elite TEs → vote TE premium).
  • Advocate for gradual transition (phased in over 2 years) to reduce the single-event winner/loser divide.
  • Vote no if the change significantly devalues your strongest assets and you’re in a title window.
