The types: (1) the breakout candidate (under-valued): a young player (21–24 years old) entering their 2nd or 3rd NFL season who showed flashes of elite ability in a limited sample; the market discounts them because the sample is small; the value lies in the probability that their role expands and the small-sample ability translates to full-sample production; (2) the high-floor veteran (occasionally over-valued): an established player with a 10-year track record who produces consistently at a known level; the market over-pays for certainty; the consistent veteran is safe but provides no ADP edge — they’re exactly priced for their production; (3) the injury-returning player (often under-valued): a player who was elite before their injury but is discounted in the current draft; if the recovery timeline is complete and the player is fully healthy, the market’s injury hesitation provides ADP value below the player’s true production potential; (4) the position-transition player (sometimes under-valued): a WR who moves from a run-first team to a pass-heavy team, or a RB who gains a feature back role after being a backup; the market sometimes lags on role-transition players because the ADP is based on prior-year production in a different role.

How to exploit market inefficiencies:

The process: (1) before each draft, identify 5–10 players who appear systematically mispriced in either direction; categorize whether they are over-priced (fade them) or under-priced (target them); (2) the ADP value band: a player who is truly worth round 6 but is being taken in round 8 on average has a 2-round ADP value band; draft them in round 7–7.5 (early in the value band) to capture the value without reaching; (3) connect inefficiency analysis to correlation analysis — market inefficiencies in one player often extend to their correlated partners; if a WR is undervalued (the market doesn’t know their target share has increased), their QB may also be undervalued; the correlated best ball stack of two undervalued players multiplies the edge.
