Best Ball Game Stacking: How to Build Double-Stack and Bring-Back Rosters
Single-team stacking — QB plus receivers from the same offense — is the baseline best ball strategy. Game stacking takes it further: by adding receivers from the opponent’s team, you create a structure where any high-scoring game generates significant correlated upside for your roster.

What Is a Game Stack?
A game stack includes receivers from both teams in the same game. If the game you are targeting has a high over/under (indicating both offenses should score), you want production from both sides.
Example game stack:
- QB from Team A
- WR1 from Team A (primary stack)
- WR2 from Team A (secondary stack)
- WR1 from Team B (bring-back)
When Team A and Team B combine for 60 points, you have exposure on both sides of the production. When Team A’s QB has his best week and Team B’s WR1 has multiple catches off coverage reactions to Team A’s passing game — you win big.
The Bring-Back Concept
The “bring-back” is the receiver from the opposing team in a game stack. The logic: when your QB and receivers have a big game, they are likely scoring lots of points. This often means the game is competitive — and a competitive game often means the opposing offense is also forced to score. The bring-back is a hedge on game competitiveness: if Team A’s offense is exceptional, the opposing Team B was probably also scoring.
Not every bring-back needs to be the best receiver on Team B. A slot receiver with volume in a competitive game can score big. The bring-back simply needs to have a role that generates real target share.
Double Stack Strategy
A double stack means you have a full QB plus two receivers from the same team, plus a bring-back (or bring-backs) from the opposing side.
Why it generates higher ceiling. Two of your WRs are fully correlated with your QB’s best performance. In a week where your QB throws for 350 yards and 4 touchdowns, both WR1 and WR2 likely had big days as well. The probability of a 200+ optimal point week dramatically increases when you have triple correlation at the top of your roster.
When Game Stacking Makes Sense
High over/under games. A game with a projected total of 50+ is the ideal target. Both offenses expect to score — which means production should be available on both sides. Game stacks in projected defensive slugfests (totals under 40) are lower value because neither offense produces enough to generate correlated ceiling weeks.
When you already have the primary stack. If you already have a QB and his WR1 in your stack, adding a bring-back from the opponent costs relatively little draft capital in the later rounds and meaningfully increases your ceiling in high-scoring game weeks.
Tournaments with large prize pools. Game stacking is most valuable in large-field best ball tournaments where you need to score 180+ points to advance. In small-field head-to-head best ball leagues, the strategy is less necessary — consistent production at 130+ points wins most matchups.
What to Avoid
Stacking in a projected bad game. Stacking receivers from two teams in a game projected at a 38 total means neither offense will likely produce enough for correlation to matter. Save your stacking for high-scoring games.
Over-concentrating on one game. Having 5 players from the same game (QB, WR1, WR2, plus WR1 and WR2 from the opponent) is extreme concentration. If the game has weather issues or becomes a defensive battle unexpectedly, your entire ceiling week collapses. Keep the bring-back to 1–2 players maximum per game stack.
